What Are Same Day Dental Implants?

Same day dental implants, clinically referred to as immediate implant loading or immediate provisionalization, is a procedure in which implant fixtures are placed and a temporary prosthetic is attached to them on the very same day. Unlike the traditional implant protocol, which requires 3 to 6 months of healing before teeth are attached, same day implants give patients functional, aesthetic teeth immediately after surgery.

The All-on-4 Arch: Strategic Implant Positioning

Four to six titanium implant fixtures are placed in strategic positions in the jaw. In the All-on-4 protocol, two implants are placed vertically at the front and two at an angle (up to 45 degrees) toward the back, maximizing contact with available bone and avoiding the need for bone grafting in most cases.

Your Same Day Journey: Step by Step

Step 1: 3D CBCT Imaging and Planning

The process begins with a cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan of your jaw. This three-dimensional X-ray allows Dr. Basar to evaluate bone density, identify nerves and sinus cavities, and plan the precise location and angle of each implant using digital implant planning software.

Step 2: Extractions, If Needed

Any remaining teeth that are failing, infected, or structurally compromised are removed during the same surgical appointment. Dr. Basar performs minimally invasive extractions designed to preserve as much bone as possible.

Step 3: Implant Placement

Four to six titanium implant fixtures are placed in strategic positions in the jaw. All-on-4 angled placement maximizes contact with available bone and avoids the need for bone grafting in most cases.

Step 4: Same Day Provisional Teeth

A pre-fabricated set of provisional teeth, typically an acrylic or composite bridge, is attached to the implants on the same day. You leave the office with fully functional, natural-looking teeth.

Step 5: Healing and Final Restoration

Over the following 4 to 6 months, osseointegration occurs. Once Dr. Basar confirms full integration, the provisional teeth are replaced with the final zirconia fixed bridge.

Am I a Candidate for Same Day Dental Implants?

Not everyone qualifies for same day implant loading. Ideal candidates typically have:

Sufficient jawbone density and volume to achieve the implant stability required for immediate loading
No active gum disease or uncontrolled oral infections
Controlled systemic health conditions (diabetes, blood pressure, etc.)
Non-smoker status or willingness to quit: smoking significantly reduces success rates
